Vanvaas Set to Premiere on ZEE5 This Holi

Mumbai, 11th March 2025: The much-anticipated film Vanvaas, featuring veteran actor Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma, is set to premiere on the OTT platform ZEE5 on March 14, 2025, coinciding with the Holi festival.

Directed by Anil Sharma, the film explores themes of familial bonds, abandonment, and redemption, telling the poignant story of an elderly widower grappling with grief and dementia.

Vanvaas follows Deepak (Nana Patekar), who is abandoned by his children in Varanasi after deciding to donate his house to a charitable trust. Struggling with the loss of his wife and facing the challenges of dementia, Deepak encounters Veeru (Utkarsh Sharma), a street-smart thief who unexpectedly becomes his guardian.

This unlikely friendship leads to a transformative journey, highlighting the complexities of family dynamics and the search for connection in times of despair.

The film’s narrative has drawn comparisons to classics like Baghban, which also dealt with family issues and emotional turmoil. Anil Sharma remarked, “As a filmmaker, some stories come to you not just as scripts but as emotions waiting to be brought to life.

Vanvaas is one such story—raw, real, and deeply moving.” He praised Patekar’s ability to embody his character fully and expressed excitement about bringing this heartfelt story to a wider audience through ZEE5.

Despite its emotional depth and strong performances, Vanvaas faced challenges at the box office during its theatrical release in December 2024, primarily due to competition from films like Pushpa 2.

Critics have provided mixed reviews, noting that while the film’s themes are relevant, it follows a somewhat predictable narrative structure. Nonetheless, the filmmakers are optimistic that its digital release will resonate with viewers who missed it in theaters.
