Vehicles from Mumbai to Be Diverted to Dehu Road Route for Bhima Koregaon Vijay Divas

Lonikand, 23rd December 2024: To commemorate the Battle of Bhima Koregaon, Abhivadan Din, or Vijay Divas, is celebrated every year on 1st January. On this day, thousands gather near the Vijay Sthamb in Bhima Koregaon, Pune District, from across Maharashtra. This results in significant traffic congestion. To manage this, all vehicles travelling from Mumbai to Bhima Koregaon have been directed to take the Dehu Road route, where a separate path has been designated for this day, as announced by Pune District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase.
Last year, managing the crowd during Abhivadan Din proved difficult. Parking and other facilities were insufficient, and traffic congestion was not properly managed. These facilities were provided in Shikrapur. As a result, instead of parking vehicles in Shikrapur, locals suggested that people coming from outside the area park their vehicles in Perne, which is closer to Bhima Koregaon. Therefore, vehicles travelling from Mumbai to Bhima Koregaon will now be directed to Perne via Dehu Road for those visiting Bhima Koregaon on 1st January. An official circular regarding this change has been circulated by the Pune District Collector’s office.
The route from Mumbai to Perne, via Dehu Road, will pass through Vadgaon Maval, Dehu Road, Charholi, Alandi, Markal, Tulapur, Lonikand, and Perne. Preparations for this arrangement have already begun, with coordination between the Traffic Branches of Pune City Police Commissionerate, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, and the Pune Rural Police Force.
