Pune, 28th January 2024: The scheduled inauguration of a significant 60 lakh liter water tank in Gokhalenagar, part of the Shivajinagar constituency represented by BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole, turned into a political battleground on Friday, January 26. Congress party workers, led by MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, clashed with their BJP counterparts, both vying for the honor of inaugurating the water tank.

Videos capturing the clash between the political party workers and the subsequent intervention by Pune police to restore order have gone viral on social media platforms.

The water tank project, aimed at alleviating water-related challenges in Gokhalenagar and Janwadi within the Shivajinagar Assembly segment, had its roots in the efforts of Congress’s former corporator, Datta Bahirat, who initiated the project in 2012.

However, BJP legislator Shirole took the lead in pushing for the project’s inauguration. He successfully convinced the Pune Municipal Corporation to organize the ceremony on Republic Day, inviting Pune Guardian Minister and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar as the chief guest.

Tensions escalated in the area when Congress leaders became assertive in their demand for inaugurating the water tank.

In the absence of Deputy Chief Minister Pawar, Shirole, along with former Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, officially inaugurated the water tank, marking the completion of the project amid the political turmoil.
