Wakad: Prompt action by police saved fourth suicide today, 3 dead

Pune, June 18, 2020: Three suicide incidents took place in Wakad area of ​​Pimpri-Chinchwad today while the fourth suicide was averted. Wakad police rushed to the spot and rescued a man who was preparing for suicide after his wife was not coming back from her mother’s place. This averted the fourth suicide in the Wakad area.

Software engineer Prashant Narendra Seth (32), a resident of Capriccio society, died of suicide due to hanging in his room on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place while his wife and children were at home. Seth hails from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and has been living with his family in Wakad for the past few years. He was working for Tata Technologies in Hinjawadi. Police have found a letter in his possession which states, “No one should be held responsible for my suicide.”

Kanika Narendra Kumar Sharma (33), resident of Delvera Society in Shivrajnagar locality of Wakad, jumped from the eighth floor of a building. Sharma has a two-and-a-half-year-old son. She had been living separately from her husband. She was at home with the boy on Thursday afternoon when the incident took place. She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Gendev Baburao Kashid (40), resident of Nisarg Colony in Rahatni, died of suicide by hanging. His wife has gone to her mother’s place. He was alone at home on Thursday afternoon when the incident took place. He used to work as a cable operator.  Police are investigating these suicide cases.

While the cops were probing these suicides, they received information from the police control room that a man was preparing for suicide around 6 pm. The 38-year-old man from Gajanan Colony, Rahatni was at home when he called the control room. “My wife has gone to her mother’s place with the children and has not returned for the last three months. I am unable to live alone and hence I am going end my life”, he informed the control room.

The beat marshalls on patrol duty, Police Naik Barkule and Constable Javed Shaikh were immediately rushed to the spot looking for his address. They reached on time and managed to counsel the man with the help of PSI Mudal and other police personnel who also arrived soon. They also got him to speak to his wife and children. He calmed down when she said she will return soon. Meanwhile, cops handed him over to his brother. Thus the promptness of the police made it possible to prevent one from dying from suicide, said senior police inspector Dr Vivek Mugalikar, in-charge of Wakad police station.
