Pune, January 24, 2021: Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant has been repeatedly asked to reduce the fees for higher and technical education courses due to online education and to reopen colleges for students. However, the Maharashtra Students Union (MASU) has alleged that time is being wasted without taking a decision in the interest of the students.

Uday Samant held a meeting in Nashik regarding the issues of Savitribai Phule Pune University’s Nashik sub-centre. Since the education system is online in the academic year 2020-2021, only tuition fees should be charged. But colleges are not allowing students to give exams for not paying fees. The Department of Higher Technical Education is not resuming the college, however, fees are charged. No decision is taken regarding the exam fees, said Siddharth Tejale of MASU.

Tejale said, “MASU office bearers had earlier met Samant in person and submitted a statement. But Samant did not take any decision in favour of students.”

Sawant Jago campaign on social media

MASU has launched a video campaign on social media called #WakeUpUdaySamant to help students. MASU’s representatives and students in the state are protesting by posting videos against Uday Samant on Facebook, Twitter and social media. They are trying to wake up the higher education department, Tejale said.
