Pune, 31st May 2023: A land parcel measuring 19 acres in Vadhu Budruk is owned by the Maharashtra Waqf Board. This land is classified as Class 2 on 7/12 land records. However, reports suggest that a group of gangsters is allegedly making efforts to seize this land unlawfully, stated Pune-based Salim Mulla, president of Waqf Liberation Task Force. He was addressing a press conference at Patrakar Bhavan today.

He added, “The Additional Divisional Commissioner of Pune has made an illegal decision favoring the gangsters. Consequently, despite the land being classified as Class 2, the names of these individuals have been included on the 7/12 document, indicating their illegal encroachment on public land.”

In response to this concerning development, the Maharashtra State Waqf Board has filed a petition in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar court against the decision made by Ramod. The court has given the Additional Divisional Commissioner and 20 related individuals a four-week deadline to provide clarification. Failure to comply within the specified timeframe will result in criminal action being taken against them.

The Maharashtra State Waqf Board has expressed dissatisfaction with the decision made by the Additional Divisional Commissioner, Pune, stating that it appears to have been made without proper legal process, disregarding the fact that the decision of the junior officers was deemed incorrect. The Waqf Board has criticized the lack of confirmation regarding the ownership of the land before reaching a verdict. It should be noted that in 2022, the names of private individuals were already removed from the land’s ownership records in seven sections. However, despite these actions, the joint sub-registrar of Talegaon Dhamdere made illicit purchases of this Inam land.

In a separate incident, on May 16, 2023, representatives of the Waqf Board received a notice, followed by government employees arriving for a land survey on May 18. Unfortunately, around 150 individuals with alleged criminal tendencies gathered at the site. The trustees of the organization presented legal documents to establish their claim, but the police threatened to take action against them for obstructing the work. Surprisingly, construction of a compound around the land continued despite the ongoing legal dispute, protected by the presence of the police.

The disputed land is a site of religious importance (Devsthan Inam Land), with a documented charter dating back to 1862. It falls under Class 2 and 3 classifications, as recorded on 7/12 documents in 2016. Additionally, as per the Government Resolution (GR) dated April 4, 2016, the Tehsildar officially registered the organization’s name on the 7/12 document. An appeal was made to the SDM, who upheld the Waqf Board’s demand.

However, the alleged misuse of authority by the Additional Divisional Commissioner resulted in an incorrect decision, placing the names of private individuals on the land designated for religious purposes, Mulla added.
