Lucknow, 1st April 2023: Lucknow Super Giants (LCG) beat the mighty Delhi by 50 runs to win their first match at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, their home ground. Delhi could only score 143 while losing nine wickets in 20 overs. From Lucknow, Mark Wood scored 14 runs in four overs and took five wickets. Captain David Warner from Delhi scored 56 runs off 48 balls.

Batting first, Lucknow raced to 193 on the back of a blistering 73 from opener Kyle Mayers. In the last over, Ayush Badoni made his impact by scoring 18 runs off seven balls. Nicholos Pooran contributed 36 runs. Khalil Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya took two wickets each for Delhi.

Delhi tried to get off to an aggressive start as LCG chased down a mammoth 194-run challenge set by Delhi Capitals. Openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner scored 40 runs in the first four overs. But then Delhi started losing momentum.

Delhi started losing the match due to the best bowling of Mark Wood. He tormented Prithvi Shaw first with a short ball. He then bowled a ball at good length and took a wicket of Shaw. On the very next ball, Mark Wood’s fastball also took the wicket of Mitchell Marsh. Delhi slowed down as Wood hit two back-to-back knocks.

After this, in the next over, Mark took the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan. This made score Delhi 48 runs for three wickets. After this, Delhi captain Warner and Rilee Rossouw took the team to 86 runs in the 12th over. But Ravi Bishnoi broke the pair by dismissing Rossouw who scored an aggressive 30 runs. Meanwhile, Warner, who is nearing his half-century, completed his half-century.

But this half-century did not benefit Delhi much. As the run rate slowed down, other Delhi batsmen were dismissed under that pressure. Finally, Avesh Khan ended Warner’s innings and Delhi fell to the pit of defeat. Akshar Patel fought back after Warner but by then the match was in Lucknow’s hands.

Earlier, the second match in IPL 2023 is being played today between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. Lucknow Super Giants are playing their first match at home. Delhi won the toss and asked Lucknow to bat first. Lucknow captain KL Rahul opens with Kyle Mayers of West Indies. This was Mayers’ first match in the IPL.

But in this very first match, Mayers showed his strength. He showed his quality in the very first match by smashing every Delhi bowler with his batting style. Mayers smashed a blistering 73 off just 38 balls to bring Lucknow to a century in the 12th over. However, Akshar Patel ended Meyers’ innings which were decorated with seven sixes and two fours.

After Mayers was dismissed, Lucknow’s run rate slowed down. Khalil Ahmed took two wickets of Marcus Stoinis for 12 and the dangerous Nicholos Pooran for 36. But on the other side, Krunal Pandya was batting cautiously. Ayush Badoni, who came to support him, took LCG to 193 runs in 20 overs.
