Mumbai, 24th October 2023: The 23rd ODI match of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 witnessed the match-up between South Africa and Bangladesh at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. South Africa, already in excellent form with more than 300 runs in their previous games, continued their high-scoring spree.

Winning the toss, South Africa elected to bat first. Openers Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen couldn’t impress, but Quinton de Kock emerged as the star of the innings, scoring an impressive century. De Kock’s remarkable innings of 174 runs from 140 balls finally concluded when he was caught by Nasum Ahmed off Hasan Mahmud’s delivery. Captain Aiden Markram also contributed with 60 runs from 69 balls before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan. The man in form, Heinrich Klaasen, further bolstered South Africa’s total with a rapid 90 runs from 49 balls. With additional support from David Miller, South Africa posted a formidable total of 382 runs for the loss of five wickets.

Hasan Mahmud led Bangladesh’s bowling department with 2 wickets, while Mehidy Hasan, Shoriful Islam, and Captain Shakib Al Hasan each took 1 wicket.

In response to the daunting target of 383 runs, Bangladesh’s batting order faltered. Liton Das, who contributed 22 runs from 44 balls, was the top scorer in the top order. Bangladesh’s skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, couldn’t make a significant impact, and Mahmudullah emerged as the lone fighter for Bangladesh, scoring 111 runs from 111 balls before being caught by Marco Jansen off Gerald Coetzee’s delivery. The rest of Bangladesh’s batting lineup struggled, ultimately being all out for 233 runs in the 47th over, resulting in a 149-run victory for South Africa.

Gerald Coetzee was the star bowler for South Africa, claiming 2 wickets while conceding 62 runs in his 10 overs. Marco Jansen, Lizaad Williams, and Kagiso Rabada each secured 2 wickets, while Keshav Maharaj added one to the tally.

In tomorrow’s 24th ODI of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia is set to face the Netherlands at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
