Pune, 21st December 2022: The Government of India is on alert as the Covid situation in China has been drastically worsening. The country is now witnessing a lack of beds to treat patients.

Adar Poonawalla, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Serum Institute of India, tweeted, “The news of rising COVID cases coming out of China is concerning. We need not panic, given our excellent vaccination coverage and track record. We must continue to trust and follow the guidelines set by the Government of India and @MoHFW_INDIA.”

Meanwhile, the Union and State Governments have already begun precautionary measures. The government has asked all states and union territories to send samples of new Covid positive patients to INSACOG (Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium) lab for genome sequencing and to identify any new variants.

Covid cases in India have remained below 300 in December. India continues its efforts and alertness in tracking and preventive measures.
