Weather Advisory for Pune: IMD Warns of Potential Thunderstorms and Rising Temperatures
Pune, 14th April 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for the state of Maharashtra, warning citizens of local instability and the formation of Cumulonimbus clouds (Cb) in isolated to scattered areas.
With enough moisture incursion due to wind discontinuity, temperatures are expected to rise during the day, leading to potential thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. The IMD has advised citizens to stay vigilant during these hours and to check impact-based advisories for safety precautions.
The yellow alert for Pune city and surrounding areas remains in place.
Impact Based Advisories:
✅Avoid stepping out in afternoons to preclude instances of heat exhaustion and dehydration.
✅ During the times of gusty ( strong) winds, people should remove any plant pots from windows/ balcony railings, as strong winds can push them off the sill or railing injuring residents. This could even be fatal for somebody.
✅ Not to take shelter under trees during thundery activity.
✅ Avoid using mobile phones and unplug electronic appliances during period of lightning.
✅ Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong wind.
✅ Avoid travel during times of strong wind/lightning.
✅ Drive slowly as visibility may reduce and roads may be slippery due to the rain spells.
