Pune, 29th October 2021: Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane

today said that the induction of girls in the National Defence Academy (NDA) will be the “first step towards gender equality” in the armed forces.

The Chief of Army Staff was the Reviewing Officer for the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 141st course of the NDA in Khadakwasla.

“As we open portals of NDA to women cadets, I expect you all to welcome them with the same sense of fair play and professionalism as Indian armed forces are known for the world over. I am sure they (women) will perform equally well as that of men cadets. This is just the first step towards gender equality and Army has been at the forefront of such initiatives in the country”, Gen Naravane said.

Later while speaking to media persons, Gen Naravane said, “the induction of women will empower them.”

When asked where he sees women officers after 30-40 years, he said that they will be in the same position where he currently stands.

Addressing the cadets, Gen Naravane stressed on jointness saying “You shall don different uniforms but always remember, no single service, by itself, can fight and win modern wars. Bonds formed here need to be continuously nurtured.”
