What Exactly Is Elon Musk Doing in the US? Trump Praises Him on Social Media, Says ‘Great Job’

New Delhi, 24th February 2025 – Former U.S. President Donald Trump praised Elon Musk for his efforts to reform the federal workforce along with urging him to take a more aggressive stance. In a social media post, Trump stated, “Elon is doing a great job, but I want him to be even more aggressive. Remember, we need to save our country and make it greater than ever.”
Responding to Trump’s post, Elon Musk replied, “It will be done.”
Shortly after, Musk made another post in which he announced an upcoming new policy for federal employees.
Musk stated, “As per President Trump’s instructions, all federal employees will soon receive an email asking what they accomplished in the past week. Failure to respond will be considered as a resignation.”
What exactly is Elon Musk’s Strategy?
After Donald Trump became the President, Elon Musk was given the responsibility of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). He has been implementing similar strategies to those he used after acquiring Twitter, with an intent to bring substantial changes to federal employees.
Musk has introduced several strict policies for federal employees, including:
Stricter policies and regulations to increase accountability and productivity of employees
Terminating remote work and mandating employees to return to the office.
Buy-out Offers in Government Agencies
Since Elon Musk’s arrival, 3 percent of the federal workforce (about 77,000) has accepted buyout offers. Additionally, DOGE has eliminated more than 1,000 non-essential contracts in 39 federal departments and agencies.
DOGE claims that these reforms have led to about $55 billion in federal savings so far. However, according to the information available on the department’s website, only $16 billion of these savings have been clearly accounted for..
Musk Faces Criticism for New Policies
The main aim of Elon Musk’s policies is to produce a more productive and accountable workforce. However, these new policies are facing severe criticism as stricter regulations have forced many employees to resign abruptly.
It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the U.S. administration and government services in the long run.
