Wholesale Market in Pune Sees Price Dip in Onions, Tomatoes, and Cauliflowers

Market Yard, 15th December 2024: The prices of onions, tomatoes, and cauliflowers have decreased by 10 to 15 percent in Pune’s Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, following increased arrivals at the wholesale market. Traders confirmed that while the prices of shevga (drumsticks) have also dropped, other fruits and vegetables have largely remained stable.
On Sunday, the market received 90 trucks of fruits and vegetables from various parts of Maharashtra and neighboring states. Senior market yard official Vilas Bhujbal shared details of the arrivals:
- Green Chillies: 8–10 tempos from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh
- Cabbage: 4–5 tempos each from Karnataka and Gujarat
- Peas: 18–20 trucks from Madhya Pradesh
- Carrots: 9–10 tempos from Rajasthan
- Shevga (Drumsticks): 2–3 tempos from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu
- Tomatoes: 11,000–12,000 boxes
- Onions: 125 trucks
- Potatoes: 40 tempos from Indore, Agra, and local areas
Other arrivals included pavta, ghevda, bell peppers, cucumbers, cauliflower, red pumpkins, and totapuri mangoes, among others.
Price Trends for Leafy Vegetables
Leafy vegetables, including coriander, fenugreek, and shepu, saw a decrease in prices, while others like mint, spinach, and ambad remained stable. Approximately 1.5 lakh pairs of coriander and 70,000 pairs of fenugreek arrived at the Market Yard on Sunday.
Current wholesale prices per 100 bundles:
- Coriander: ₹400–1,000
- Fenugreek: ₹500–800
- Shepu: ₹500–800
- Spinach: ₹800–1,500
- Mint: ₹500–800
- Onion Leaves: ₹800–1,200
Other leafy vegetables such as chuka, ramgira, and chakawat are being sold within the ₹400–800 range.
Fruits: Stable Prices with a Few Changes
The fruit market witnessed a 5–10 percent increase in the price, while fruits like sweet lime, watermelon, muskmelon, and papaya experienced a slight dip. Meanwhile, guava, custard apple, pineapple, and oranges maintained steady prices.
Sunday arrivals in the fruit section included:
- Oranges: 70–80 tons
- Watermelons: 70–80 tons
- Papayas: 30–40 tempos
- Guava: 800–900 plastic crates
- Custard Apples: 10–15 tons
The Pune wholesale market continues to experience fluctuations in arrivals and pricing as traders manage seasonal produce and varying demand.
