New Delhi, 26th August 2025: Technology sector leaders are increasingly concerned not just about their businesses, but also about their personal safety and that of their families. In 2024, the world’s 10 largest tech companies collectively spent over ₹369 crore on security measures for their CEOs and immediate families, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s protection alone costing ₹221 crore.

Rising Security Costs for Tech Leaders
Tech executives, who own billions of dollars in wealth, are becoming high-profile targets due to their public visibility, political influence, and role in global affairs. As a result, companies are heavily investing in private security teams, advanced surveillance systems, and digital safety measures to safeguard their top leaders.

Crores Spent Protecting Top CEOs
The bulk of the 2024 security expenditure was allocated to Mark Zuckerberg and his family. Meta’s spending includes protection at their Palo Alto residence, private security during travel, advanced surveillance technologies, and digital protection services. Zuckerberg has long been under scrutiny due to Facebook’s handling of data privacy, electoral interference, and misinformation, making his security a priority.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X, is also among the most heavily protected executives. Tesla reportedly spent around ₹21 crore on his security in 2023. Musk employs nearly 20 personal bodyguards at all times, reflecting the threats stemming from his controversial statements on politics, global affairs, and social media.

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, costs his company around ₹13 crore annually for security. Even though he no longer serves as CEO, his global profile and influence continue to necessitate significant protection. Current Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has also seen security spending rise sharply.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, a key figure in artificial intelligence, had ₹29 crore spent on his protection in 2024. Huang’s personal wealth, exceeding ₹13 lakh crore, and his influence in tech policymaking place him in the high-risk category.

Other High-Profile Executives
In the broader corporate world, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon incurred ₹7.2 crore in security costs in 2024. Palantir Technologies CEO Alex Karp regularly faces death threats due to the company’s work with Israel and the US immigration authorities.

A stark reminder of the risks occurred in 2024 when United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot dead, with the attacker receiving widespread support on social media. This incident has heightened awareness about the urgent need for robust executive security in both tech and other corporate sectors.
