Kothrud, 26th August 2025: MIT College in Kothrud has suspended a third-year BBA student for one month after an internal inquiry revealed that he was actively involved in promoting the controversial August 18 Freshers’ Party at a Mundhwa restobar. The college said the student used his social media account to circulate event details and collected Rs 400 per head from participants.

A senior college official confirmed the action and explained the consequences for the student. “Since he will miss an entire month of classes, his attendance for this semester will fall short of the required 75 percent. This means he will have to repeat the semester,” the official said.

The administration has also begun looking into how students came in contact with the event organizers. “We are still probing the link between the student community and the event management company that arranged the party. His parents were called to the institute, and the family, along with the student, was counseled in the presence of the Pune Police Commissioner,” the official added.

The suspension comes in the backdrop of a police case filed against the owners of the Mundhwa restobar (Pivo Garten) and the event management team (EDM World Company) responsible for hosting the illegal party. The event, which saw the participation of over 800 students, turned chaotic after liquor was served without permission.

A Mundhwa police officer said, “We have registered a case against the restobar owners as well as the event organizers. Such unauthorized gatherings not only flout rules but also put young students at risk.”
