Pune, 18th February 2026: In a stirring display of empathy and social consciousness, 10-year-old students at Nav Maharashtra Primary School in Dhankawadi took a firm stand against animal cruelty, questioning societal habits regarding fashion and consumption.

The students spearheaded a unique ‘Animal Rights Awareness’ camp, organized jointly by the NGO Peedus People and the Nav Maharashtra Primary School Animal Club. The one-hour program was designed to empower young children to become the voice for the voiceless, leaving teachers and parents deeply moved.

Street Play Moves Audience to Tears

The highlight of the event was a powerful street play performed by the students. The performance exposed the grim reality of the leather industry, depicting the atrocities and slaughter animals endure to produce luxury bags and boots.

Ten students, all aged ten, donned animal masks and used original poems and posters to represent different species. Their heartfelt plea, “Let us live too,” resonated with the audience, moving many to tears. The atmosphere culminated in an emotional group song titled “The Earth belongs to animals as much as humans.”

Starting Change from Within

Beyond highlighting the problems, the students proposed concrete solutions and pledged to start the change in their own lives. Commitments made by the young activists included:
Giving up products such as leather, milk, eggs, and meat.
Treating animals with love and protecting their rights.
Urging families and neighbors to adopt these changes.

A Sensitive Generation

Speaking on the success of the event, an organizer from Peedus People stated, “We don’t just want to raise a literate generation, but a sensitive and responsible one. The fact that children took the initiative to speak up for animals is the true success of this initiative.”
