Pune, 12th June 2023: A recent case involving a young woman’s complaint about her friend’s alleged abduction by a young man to Delhi has taken an unexpected turn. The Pune police, deeply concerned about the nature of the incident being labeled as an inter-faith love affair, promptly launched an investigation, even dispatching a team to Delhi to handle the matter directly.

However, as the investigation unfolded, it became apparent that the claims of ‘Love Jihad’ were baseless. The complainant had accused her boyfriend of harassment and sought help from police but didn’t get expected response and hence faked the ‘Love Jihad’ case of her friend.

The saga began when the complainant woman approached the police, reporting that her friend had been kidnapped by a young man from Yerwada. Given the prevailing discussions surrounding ‘Love Jihad,’ the police took the complaint seriously and initiated inquiries through the Chandannagar police station.

During the investigation, the complainant provided the name and mobile number of the purportedly kidnapped girl. Acting on this information, the police commenced their investigation. However, they encountered difficulties as the mobile number provided by the complainant was continuously off. This raised concerns among the investigators. Consequently, the police retrieved the phone’s data, which ultimately led them to a young woman residing in Lohegaon.

To their surprise, the young woman in Lohegaon had no knowledge of the alleged abduction and stated that her mobile phone had been switched off for the past four months. This revelation cast doubt on the credibility of the complainant’s story. At this point, the complainant, desperate to convince the police, requested the location of her friend in Delhi, claiming it belonged to the kidnapped individual.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Amol Zende and DCP (Zone 4) Shashikant Borate closely monitored the case’s progress. Acting on the location provided, the police dispatched a team to Delhi. Eventually, they located the young woman in Noida.

Initially, the police believed that their investigation had reached its conclusion. However, during the subsequent interrogation, the young woman confessed that she had intentionally sent the location to her friend in Pune. When confronted with the police, the complainant finally admitted to fabricating the entire abduction drama as a means to confront the authorities.

DCP Borate said that the complainant woman had dialed the emergency helpline number, 112, following a dispute with her boyfriend. However, as she did not receive the assistance she sought from the police, she resorted to concocting a false story.

It was discovered that the woman, who is currently separated from her husband, had faced troubles from her boyfriend prior to her marriage. Seeking help, she reached out to the police. Unfortunately, her plea went unanswered, prompting her to resort to creating a fictitious account of events.
