Mumbai, 12th June 2023: Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch has apprehended a 34-year-old IT professional, identified as Sagar Barve from Pune, for allegedly making death threats against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar through social media. Barve had posted the threatening content under a pseudonym, as per reports.

The accused was presented before the court, where he was remanded to police custody until Tuesday. Earlier, Supriya Sule, senior NCP leader and daughter of Sharad Pawar, had lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police regarding the social media post that targeted her father.

Opposition parties swiftly reacted to the incident, and Sharad Pawar himself criticized the state government, emphasizing that those in power cannot evade their responsibilities. Ajit Pawar, senior NCP leader, also claimed that the person behind the social media post had identified as a BJP worker on their profile. The police are currently investigating any potential affiliations the accused may have with political parties.
