Youth Arrested in Pune for Possessing Fake Currency Notes Worth Rs 77,200

Pune, 23rd December 2024: Samarth Police have arrested a youth from Gujarat for allegedly attempting to circulate fake currency notes in the city. A total of 203 counterfeit notes, including 142 of ₹500 and 61 of ₹100 denominations, amounting to ₹77,200, were seized from him.
The accused has been identified as Gaurav Rampratap Savita (24), a resident of Jamnagar, Gujarat. Police Constable Lakhan Shete filed a complaint regarding the incident at the Samarth Police Station, Pune City Police.
According to the police, the arrest was made during a combing operation on Friday night. A team of officers, led by Senior Inspector Umesh Gitte, was inspecting a lodge in Somwar Peth, Rasta Peth. Acting on a tip-off, the team learned about an individual in possession of counterfeit currency staying near the Shri Untade Maruti Mandir in Rasta Peth.
When the police approached the location, the accused attempted to flee but was apprehended. A search of his belongings revealed the counterfeit notes. Gaurav was immediately taken to the Samarth Police Station for further interrogation.
Police sources have stated that an investigation is underway to trace the origin of the fake notes and identify others potentially involved in the network. Sub-Inspector Meghraj Jadhav is leading the probe under the guidance of Senior Inspector Gitte.
