3 AUG 2019 : In the current scenario because of debts and weather uncertainties, farmers are committing suicides- crops are failing, they are unable to get healthy yields and they are falling deeper and deeper into debts of banks and zamindars which they are unable to repay.

Padmashri Subhash Palekar, a well-known agriculturist conducted a 1-day workshop on Zero Budget Organic Farming at Punyadham Ashram on 31st July 2019 which was attended by 300 people from all over Pune and its neighbouring areas.

“Zero Budget Organic Farming is an innovative type of farming which grows crops with minimum resources and is sustainable in the long run. It also involves growing crops using organic, eco-friendly methods of farming without use of harmful pesticides which are a reason for so many modern diseases”, said Palekar.

Farmers, agricultural students, activists, young scientists and people from different walks of life enjoyed and found the workshop very informative and beneficial. The workshop also had a Q&A session where all the queries were addressed.

Palekar has authored a number of books and has gained recognition nationwide for his extensive work in making farming affordable, pesticide-free and easily implementable. Through his popular workshops he advocates his methods and ideas to popularize this unique technique.

Subhash Palekar expressed his deep gratitude to Maa Krishna Kashyap, Chairperson, Punyadham Ashram, for her blessings and unstinting support and the Ashram staff for their cooperation and help without which the workshop would not have been such a huge success.
