ZTCC Pune Achieves Milestone With 58 Organ Donors In 2023, Highest In Last Three Years

Pune, 8th January 2024: The Pune Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) achieved a significant milestone in 2023 with a total of 58 deceased donors. The positive trend continued into the new year, witnessing the third consecutive donor in the zone yesterday. The selfless decision made in the face of tragedy has extended the gift of life to three pediatric individuals.

The latest donor is an 11-year-old pediatric donor originally from Buldhana district. His parents, employed as farm laborers in Satara, faced a tragic incident when their son met with an accident. Initially admitted to Satara Civil Hospital, it was later decided to transfer him to Sasoon Hospital, Pune, as Satara Civil is not a registered center. Unfortunately, he was declared brain dead at Sasoon Hospital, and in a remarkable display of generosity, his parents consented to organ donation.

ZTCC Pune efficiently distributed the organs following organ allocation guidelines. Both kidneys were allocated to Command Hospital and Symbiosis Hospital, while the heart found its way to DY Patil Medical College, Pune. As of now, all three recipients are reported to be in stable condition and on the road to recovery, according to Arti Gokhale, Chief Transplant Coordinator for ZTCC, Pune.
