Pune, 31st December 2024: The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) Pune has achieved a historic milestone by facilitating 70 deceased organ donations in 2024, the highest annual total in its history. This surpasses the previous record of 63 donations set in 2018 and 2019. Since its establishment in 2004, ZTCC Pune has coordinated 557 organ donations, saving 1,355 lives.

A noteworthy aspect of this achievement is the contribution of government hospitals. Seven organ donations were facilitated through public healthcare facilities, including one from Sassoon General Hospital and six from Command Hospital. These contributions underscore the growing commitment of public healthcare institutions toward organ donation.

The year also witnessed professionals from various sectors stepping forward to pledge their organs. Donors included reporters and producers from the media and film industry, doctors from the medical field, and pilots from the aviation sector. Their decisions to donate reflect a profound sense of social responsibility and inspire others to follow suit.

ZTCC Pune has consistently innovated and led the way in organ transplantation efforts. A key initiative has been the creation of Green Corridors, which enable the swift transportation of organs. By the end of 2024, the center had facilitated 175 such corridors, ensuring timely transplants and saving numerous lives.

Dr. A.G. Huprikar, Chairman of ZTCC Pune, expressed gratitude to the medical professionals and coordinators whose tireless efforts have made this success possible. “Their dedication to grief counseling and supporting donor families has turned moments of sorrow into opportunities for hope,” Dr. Huprikar said.
