International Certification from Purdue University to Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune (VI, Pune) Students

Purdue NExT enhances the way students learn and interact online. This approach to online learning teaches the students how to master a specific marketable skill that they can immediately apply to their field of study.

The students can opt to do any number of the non-credit skill based certificate programs to add to their knowledge, skills and credentials. A select list of courses offered last year to the 75 students were:

· Signal Processing for Embedded Systems (SPFES)

· Hybrid Electric Vehicle – Power Electronics and Electric Machines (HEVPE&EM)

· Mechanics of MEMS and NEMS: Transduction and Related Topics (MEMS and NEMS)

Most of these global certification programs also hold a special appeal for the recruiters and hence VIT students can expect further enhancement in the caliber of the companies, roles and remunerations after completion of their BTech!

The PurdueNExT Convocation Ceremony for VIT Students:

VI, Pune is the first engineering institute in India to integrate seamlessly Purdue NExT certification course as a part of the academic curriculum wherein the faculty from VI, Pune also teach it in class, the evaluation is conducted by the department along with Purdue and there is a class room teaching carried out using the login and Internet based material provided by Purdue NExT. The completion certification distribution ceremony for students was held at the VIT, Pune campus on Sat. 22nd August.

70 students out of 75 have earned the digital badge and certificate from Purdue University. With the successful completion of these courses the students now have experience of international environment in technical education. With the Digital Badges and Certificates from Purdue University, the students will not only get international recognition, but also make it easier for them to do higher studies in Foreign Universities.

Through this partnership VIT Pune is now able to offer curriculum enhancement by adding non-credit, skill-based certification programs to improve their overall education offerings.

Students Testify to PurdueNExT program:

According to a majority of the students, the name Purdue University was enough for them to opt for these courses. The faculty was top-notch as the course structure offered a very different learning experience. These courses were conducted online through video conferencing by the expert faculty of Purdue University. The pass percentage was 70% which meant that preparation levels required were high. VITPune faculty was also trained by Purdue University in the course content and methodology and hence the entire execution of the course was very interesting and satisfying for the students. Though ittook them some time to acquaint themselves with the accent used in some of the modules, Prof. Dr. Shilpa Sondkar, Prof. Praveen Pol, and Prof. Manisha Mhetre made the course interesting and effective for them.This has given studentsnot only extra credits but knowledge of international expectations and standards right in their own environment.

A Faculty-Driven initiative:

It was an innovative initiative by Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Janlekar, Director, VIT, Pune, Prof (Dr.) Siddharth Jabade, Dean Alumni & International Relations and Prof. Pramod Kanjalkar, Head Instrumentation Engineering Department, VIT, Pune to encourage the final year students of Instrumentation Engineering Department to study and earn a certificate from an international University, Purdue University, Indiana, USA. Also Mr. Bharat Agarwal, Managing Trustee, Vishwakarma Institutes was very supportive for this initiative. VIT has paid all the fees for 75 students, and the students were not charged anything extra for the Purdue University Online Courses.
