National Level Professional Development Programme (PDP) held for Librarians

One-day National Level Professional Development Programme (PDP) for Librarians on “Traditional to Virtual: Changing Dynamics of Library and Information Services” was organized by the Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society, Azam Campus, Pune

The basic purpose to organize this PDP for Librarians is to impart knowledge concerning the emerging trends and technologies in the field of library and information services

Dr Akhtar Parvez, University Librarian, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad was the Chief Guest, he said “this is the most challenging time for librarians because users are very informed and impatience today”. Dr. N. B. Dahibhate, the Former Principal Technical Officer (Information Services Division), CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune was the Guest of Honour. He said the library professionals have to change their attitude then have to take different efforts to sustain in the profession.

Mrs. Abeda P. Inamdar, the Vice President, M.C.E. Society presided over the inaugural function. She said the librarians can do business with the God by sharing Information to the society. Mr. Latif Magdum, Hon. Secretary of the M.C.E. Society also graced the occasion.

In his session Dr Akhtar Parvez focused on the changing processes of the libraries due to impact of ICT. Dr. Sandeep Kumar Pathak, Deputy Librarian, IISER Bhopal highlighted the new technology applications in the field of library and Information services. Dr. S.A.N. Inamdar, Ex-Librarian, Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli shared his experience on the importance and management of Digital Institutional Repositories. Mrs. Vrushali Dandawate, Librarians AISSMS College of Engineering, Pune discussed issues of Open Access Development and policies in India. Mr. Kishore Ingale, Head Information Services Division, Tata Consultancy Services, Pune Branch motivated the participants to adopt social media tools to serve the library users efficiently.
Co-ordinator of the PDP was Dr. Intekhab Alam Siddiqui, Librarian, A.K.K. New Law Academy, Pune and Mrs. Deeba Khanam, Assistant Professor, proposed vote of thanks at the end of the programme.

Dr Alam highlighted the aims and objectives of the PDP.

During inaugural session, Co-ordinator, Dr Intekhab Alam Siddiqui, Librarian, A.K.K. New Law Academy passed welcome remarks said M.C.E. Society promotes application of Information and Communication Technology in teaching and learning under the able leadership of Dr. P.A. Inamdar, President M.C.E. Society .
