Pune city police gets modern cyber lab

Pune : District guardian minister Girish Bapat on Monday inaugurated a modern cyber lab for the Pune city police at the headquarters in Shivajinagar.

Commissioner of Police Rashmi Shukla, joint commissioner Sunil Ramanand and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.

The lab is part of state government’s ambitious “Cyber Maharashtra project’ wherein 51 cyber laboratories were inaugurated across the state on the occasion of Independence Day.

The lab will be operated by the cyber crime cell of Pune police’s crime branch.

According to police, the lab is equipped with softwares and equipments for various forensic investigations including that of hard disk, mobile phone, video, mobile call details record (CDR) among others. The lab will help in quick arrest of accused.

Between January and July this year, Cyber crime cell received 924 applications about various cases including 69 about obscene photo/messages on phone, 435 cheating of which 201 were related to ATM cards, 118 cases related to Facebook like defamatory content and fake profile, 90 hacking cases etc.
