Mumbai, 19 August 2019: Procam International, promoters of Asia’s prestigious Tata Mumbai Marathon, today announced an exciting new partnership with Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF) as its Inclusion Ally to encourage Persons with Disability in the Open 10K category. ABBF, a not-for-profit organization, works extensively towards inclusion via sports for persons with and without disability 67.
Sport pushes humans to test and conquer seemingly impossible limits. It has the ability to inspire, birth incredible stories, and bring out the gold in humanity. The Tata Mumbai Marathon is a befitting example of this. The journey of this event for the past 16 years has been transformational. From starting a health & fitness revolution in the country to bringing the community together without discrimination on one common platform, to creating an equal chance for amateurs and elite runners alike to vie for glory, to becoming the single-largest fund-raising platform of Indian sport.
Keeping in sync with this, the 2020 edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon has officially opened up the 10K for Persons with Disablity. This is an indispensable addition to the existing category which is currently reserved for women and charity bibs.
The Tata Mumbai Marathon offers an equal opportunity for all participants to compete for prize money and all finishers will be felicitated with a finishers certificate and a medal. This new feature also aims to motivate regular runners to volunteer for Persons with Disability as their ally, train with them and offer valuable tips that can guide them across the finish line. For ABBF registration, please contact Nalanda Joglekar @ email@example.com or Nimisha Mehta at nimisha@ adventuresbeyondbarriers.com.
ABBF has been working tirelessly towards providing opportunities for Persons with Disability (PwD) to come together and experience the adrenaline and camaraderie that only sport can offer. With the outdoor sessions and collaborations, ABBF aims to build an environment of openness, sensitivity, and empathy. Striving towards creating visibility for runners with disability, ABBF strives to shatter social stereotypes around disability.
On the association, Vivek Singh, Joint MD, Procam International, said, “Runners are our biggest stakeholders and our aim has always been to expand the running universe. We are proud to announce our association with ABBF for the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020 edition and beyond. This unique initiative will boost the morale of the differently abled and encourage them to be a part of the Tata Mumbai Marathon. This could be a beginning for a new trend in the Indian running eco-system.”
Divyanshu Ganatra, Founder Director, ABBF, said, “This is a very big step for us at ABBF and for the cause of inclusion, as Tata Mumbai Marathon is one of India’s largest sporting platforms and a great place to establish what we could do with inclusion in sports. We aim to put inclusion on the map of not just this country, but demonstrate to the world that it is possible to do things together and make this world a better place. This is a great opportunity for our members to participate whole-heartedly, and this will set an example for everyone to follow. Procam International’s pioneering act will encourage other marathon organisers around the country to start including people with disability, to start making marathons accessible, and to take forward the dialogue of inclusion.”
TMM 2020 is expected to witness over 50,000 runners participating on the streets of Maximum City on Sunday, 19th January 2020.
