12 Government Hospitals in Pune Circle Served Notices Over Poor Cleanliness, Lax Health Services
Pune, 30th October 2025: Following increasing complaints about poor conditions in government hospitals across the Pune division, the state health department has issued show-cause notices to the medical superintendents of 12 hospitals in Pune, Satara, and Solapur districts. The action follows surprise inspections that revealed serious lapses in cleanliness, biomedical waste management, and patient care.
The inspection drive was conducted between September 23 and 27 under the direction of Dr. Bhagwan Pawar, Deputy Director of Health, Pune Circle, after Health Minister Prakash Abitkar ordered a state-wide review of health centers on September 25.
A total of 68 hospitals were inspected by 14 teams, each comprising a senior medical officer, an administrative expert, and a divisional officer. In Pune district, six teams inspected 28 hospitals, while four teams each examined 19 hospitals in Satara and 21 in Solapur.
The inspection reports highlighted several serious issues. In many hospitals, maternity wards, operation theatres, autopsy rooms, and toilets were found to be unhygienic. The condition of neonatal care units was also reported as “worrying,” indicating lapses in basic healthcare standards.
Show-cause notices have been issued to Lonavala Sub-District Hospital, Kale Colony Rural Hospital, and Shikrapur Rural Hospital in Pune district. Similar action has been taken against hospitals in Patan, Vaduz, and Dahiwadi in Satara district, and in Mangalwedha, Madha, Shetphal, Mandrup, and the Mahila Hospital in Solapur district.
Dr. Bhagwan Pawar said that all hospitals have been directed to submit improvement reports, after which follow-up inspections will be conducted by newly appointed teams. “If no significant progress is seen in cleanliness and management, strict administrative action will be taken against the concerned officers under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979,” he stated.
