14-Year-Old Girl Raped In Jhelum Express, Pune GRP Arrests 3 Persons

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), 23rd July 2022: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted earlier this week in a pantry car of the Jhelum Express train which runs between Pune and Jammu. Three people, including the pantry car employee and his Pune-based contractor, have been nabbed by the Government Railway Police (GRP).

According to the police, the girl who is an orphan, unintentionally boarded an AC compartment of the Jhelum Express at Bhopal on July 19 at 12.30 am. A staff working in the train’s pantry car noticed her and asked her why she was in the compartment. The accused led the girl to the pantry car under the guise of providing her food after threatening to turn her over to the ticket collector. He allegedly then started sexually abusing the teenager inside the pantry car, according to the police.

The young girl got off the train at the Bhusawal station and was found by NGO workers who took her to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Later, she was taken to the Bhusawal Police Station. On the evening of July 19, an FIR of rape was filed under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Later, the Bhopal Railway Police received the complaint. Upon receiving the information, Pune GRP SP Sadanand Wayse Patil initiated a search for the accused persons. The cops arrested three from Shravasti Nagar in Ghorpadi, Pune.

The three were then placed under police protection while a squad from the Bhopal Railway Police picked up the suspect from Pune. The victim has since identified the primary suspect in the case.
