13 JAN 2019 : “Necessity is the mother of all inventions”. So is rightly proved by Mayuri Yadav, a 16-year-old girl from Baramati who wanted to do something to make sure that her brother never missed school due to his disability, built a makeshift wheelchair cycle, from which she can drop her brother to school.
Using all her skills at her disposal she made a wheelchair-cum-cycle so that she could take her brother to school.
Her innovative wheelchair-cycle was exhibited at the district level science exhibition. And it has been selected for the state-level science exhibition as well.

Nikhil Yadav, a 12-year-old boy from the same school, was born differently-abled. Nikhil, who is wheelchair-bound, was totally dependent on his family and on his wheelchair to move from one place to another. But he never allowed his disability to overpower him. His parents too encouraged him to study further. Nikhil’s father usually dropped and picked him up from school. But, sometimes, whenever his father was out due to his work he had to miss out on school.

His 16-year-old sister, Mayuri noticed her brother’s misery and decided to help him so that he won’t miss school.
Mayuri came up with a novel idea of building a wheelchair cycle. She shared the idea with school Principal Mr A.S. Atar and other teachers and then with their help, she built a wheelchair-cum-cycle for her brother.
While speaking to UNI, Mayuri Yadav said, “My father used to drop Nikhil to school every day. But, sometimes due to his work, Nikhil used to miss his school. My father can’t take leave every day.”

“So, an idea came up in my mind, to attach my cycle to his wheelchair. Now, both of us can go to school together,” Mayuri added with a smile on her face.

Principal Mr Atar said, “We had exhibited the cycle in the district level competition. And has been selected to compete at the state-level science exhibition as well. Nikhil is in our school at sixth. Although differently-abled, his study progress is appreciable, but due to his physical disability, he always needed his father to drop him at school. Whenever his father did not get time, Nikhil misses his school. So when Mayuri told us the idea of adding a wheelchair to her bicycle, Science Teacher Mr Pawar and Mrs Vasekar discussed the concept thoroughly and helped her make this cycle.”

“The wheelchair-cycle is ready and has been kept in the school so that other students will also get motivated by this kind of innovation. I urge society to come forward to help Nikhil,” Mr Atar added.
