240 Seats Increased For BTech In IIIT Nagpur; Four New Branches Added

Nagpur, 6th October 2022: The Indian Institute Of Information Technology (IIIT), has increased 240 seats for BTech course for the academic session 2022-2023. Along with this, four new branches of engineering have also been started. These four branches are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human Computer Interaction and Gaming Technology, Data Science and Analytics and Internet of Things (IoT).

The branches of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Human Computer Interaction and Gaming Technology, Data Science and Analytics will start under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering while the Internet of Things (IoT) will start under the Department of Electronics and Communication.

According to Times of India, Dean in-charge Ashwin Kothari said, “Till last year we had 373 seats in BTech first year, now the number has increased to 637 from this academic session. In these, seats for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) have also been included.

Last year IIIT Nagpur had 214 seats in Computer Science and Engineering department which has now increased to 421, whereas in Electronics and Communication department which were 133 seats last year which has increased to 216 now.

Kothari added, “Now students from Nagpur and other cities of the region have a golden chance to pursue a popular course. These courses are available in few selected colleges. Many big and famous companies are coming for placement in our institute. They are offering good salary package to the students. Internship offers are also coming to the students from many reputed companies and organizations. Rapid recruitment is also happening in the faculty.”

IIIT Nagpur was started in 2016-17 from BSNL Regional Telecom Training Centre, Seminary Hills. After this, in the year 2021, this institute was shifted to its permanent campus. It now plans to set up its own IT park in two years from where software companies can operate their units. This will be the first institute among all the IIITs where students will get such advance facility. Students will also be able to do internships in these software units.

Apart from this, IIIT Nagpur also has plans to build a community center of international standard.
