Goa, 7th December 2025: At least 25 people lost their lives and six others sustained injuries in a massive cylinder blast at a nightclub in Arpora late Saturday night. Police confirmed that the deceased included four tourists and 14 staff members, while the identities of seven others are yet to be established.

The explosion occurred around midnight, triggering a fierce blaze that engulfed the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub within minutes. Firefighters battled the flames for a prolonged period before bringing the situation under control.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and local MLA Michael Lobo rushed to the site soon after the incident. Speaking to reporters, Sawant said three victims died due to burn injuries, while the remaining casualties were caused by suffocation. He assured that a detailed investigation would be undertaken and strict action will follow against those found negligent.

Early findings indicate that the club had not complied with mandatory fire safety measures. Senior administration officials and a forensic team are currently examining the scene to determine the exact cause of the blast and subsequent fire.

Goa DGP Alok Kumar said that most of the victims were employees working in the kitchen area. The fire reportedly started on the ground floor and quickly spread upstairs, leaving several people trapped. Two people died on the staircase while attempting to escape.

In a message shared on X, CM Sawant called it “a very sad day for Goa,” offering condolences to the families of the victims and reiterating that no negligence will be spared. He said the probe will verify whether fire safety and building regulations were followed, and actions under relevant laws will be taken accordingly.

“I am closely reviewing the situation arising from the tragic fire incident at Arpora, in which 25 people have lost their lives and 6 have been injured. All six injured persons are in a stable condition and are receiving the best medical care. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident to identify the cause and fix responsibility”, Sawant tweeted.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Michael Lobo demanded a statewide safety audit of clubs, citing the growing concerns over tourist and worker safety. He emphasized that Goa has always been seen as a safe travel destination, and incidents like this must not be repeated.

Authorities continue rescue operations and identification of victims, while the injured are being treated at nearby hospitals. The tragedy has sparked widespread concern over safety standards in Goa’s popular nightlife sector.
