Pune: 10 Pet Owners Fined in Kothrud for Failing to Maintain Public Cleanliness
Kothrud, 7th December 2025: In a bid to improve hygiene on public roads and promote responsible pet ownership, the Solid Waste Management Department of the Kothrud-Bavdhan Ward Office carried out a special awareness and enforcement drive for dog owners in Ward 12. The initiative was undertaken under the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Swachh Survekshan 2025-26’.
On Saturday morning, officials interacted with pet owners during their routine dog walks, educating them on the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. Using a ‘Gandhigiri’ approach, authorities sensitized residents about their responsibility to clean up after their pets. However, penalties were also imposed — 10 violators were fined Rs 500 each for failing to follow the rules.
The campaign covered key areas such as Dahanukar Colony, Cummins Road, Gopinathnagar, Kumar area, Gandhi Bhavan, Ashish Garden DP Road, Paramhansnagar, Mhatobanagar and Shivtirthanagar.
Municipal officers said the campaign was organised following numerous complaints from citizens concerned about deteriorating cleanliness caused by pet waste along walkways, leading to inconvenience for pedestrians. The civic body has now intensified monitoring by forming teams comprising health inspectors and Mukadams.
Those present during the drive included Municipal Assistant Commissioner Suhas Jadhav, Senior Health Department official Ganesh Khirid, Health Inspectors Karan Kumbhar, Kiran Jadhav, Dattatreya Dalvi, Rajesh Aher, Pramod Chavan, Laxmikant Kulkarni, Ganesh Sathe, Ganesh Chondhe, Jaya Sangde, Mukadam Vaijinath Gaikwad, Anna Dhaware, Ashok Kamble and Sainath Telangi.
Officials said similar awareness and enforcement activities will continue in the coming days to ensure cleaner public spaces and greater compliance from pet owners.
