3M India partners with Project Nanhi Kali to provide education for 2000 girl children in rural Maharashtra

Pune, 2018: Fulfilling its commitment to promote education and STEM initiatives, 3M India has extended support to educate girl children in association with Nanhi Kali, one of the largest community programs imparting education to underprivileged girl children. Through this program, 3M India has committed support to educate 2000 girl children in Ambegaon region of Maharashtra.

 

Commenting on the partnership, Debarati Sen, Managing Director, 3M India Region, said, “Educating a girl child has a huge positive impact within her own family, society, and the economy at large. We are extremely delighted to partner with KC Mahindra Education Trust and Naandi Foundation who have been driving this amazing project for several years now. Due to multiple synergies in our beliefs about education, the 3M India team feels very passionate about the association with the Nanhi Kali project and we are looking forward to a fruitful and productive partnership. She added, “Being a science and innovation company, 3M is committed to increase student achievements in STEM curriculum and promote equity by driving access to quality, holistic education for all.

 

The company has plans of additionally supporting the children with stationery from its Post-It® range of products which can be used as teaching and learning aids.

 

“A recent TAG Survey on teenage girls in India done by Nanhi Kali reveals that 70% wish to pursue higher studies and 74.3% wish to work, with specific careers in mind. At Nanhi Kali, we support the education of young girls from Class 1 to 10, so that they are ready to live out their dreams and aspirations. We are very grateful to 3M India for their support towards 2,000 underprivileged girls in rural Maharashtra, whose destinies will be shaped through this partnership,” said Sheetal Mehta, Trustee & Executive Director, K.C. Mahindra Education Trust.

 

According to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, there has been an increase of enrollment of girl students both at primary and secondary education level. The TAG Survey also revealed that 3 of 4 girls wished to earn a livelihood and support their families and did not want to be married before 21.
