Pune, 17th August 2021: Chaos has erupted in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over and many are preparing to leave the country. However, students who come to India for education are hoping for the safety of their parents.

This year, 704 students from Afghanistan have come to Pune on different visas, out of which 664 are students. They are facing difficulties in returning home and their parents are stuck in an unsafe environment.

Due to limited educational opportunities in Afghanistan, many students go to different countries every year for higher education. In India, they mainly go to Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other cities for education.

In Pune, students from Afghanistan are taking admission for BA, BCom, BBA, BCS etc. courses at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Symbiosis, Bharati University, VIT College.

The number of students going abroad for education has dropped due to the Covid crisis. As a result, only a limited number of students left Afghanistan this year. They are concerned about the risk of Afghan students returning to their homeland and the expiration of their visas to India.

The Afghan students in Pune said that the Taliban has entered Kabul without violence, but civilians are scared. The students are worried about the safety of their parents. Returning to Kabul is dangerous, and the situation in Afghanistan needs to be restored, they said.
