Pune, 16th May 2022: Citizens in the Pune district are bearing the brunt of the mistakes of Talathis in 7/12 land extracts. Till now 7,523 errors have been detected as there is a mismatch between handwritten and online 7/12 land extracts.

People said that despite following up from the last 2-3 years, no correction orders are being issued by the Tehsildars.

A 7/12 land extract tells about the owners of a piece of land. While the handwritten 7/12 documents are being converted to digital 7/12, some of the transcripts have land area discrepancies and name errors. These 7/12 land extracts did not go through the scrutiny, leaving the mistakes to be corrected.

Earlier, the Talathi had the power to correct the errors in the 7/12 land extracts. Now, the charge is given to the Tehsildar. The Naib Tehsildar and Tehsildars were entrusted with the responsibility of checking that 7/12 should be perfect.

How to rectify mistakes in 7/12 land extract?

An application has to be submitted to the Tehsildar’s office with all documents. The application then goes to the Circle Officer. Feedback is sought from Talathi and Circle officer. Upon receipt of this feedback, a notice is sent to the owners of the land mentioned in the 7/12 document and a hearing is held. After this, orders are issued by the Tehsildar to rectify the mistakes.

However, the online 7/12 document shows that there is only an area of 10 gunthas. The inquiry report of Talathi and Mandal officials in this case has also come two years ago.
