85,000 Citizens Register For The Pune Plogathon 2022: Mega Drive

Pune, 3rd June 2022: “Plogathon” is a commendable initiative in maintaining public hygiene with the participation of citizens and this year “Pune Plogathon 2022: Mega Drive” will be organized on June 5, 2022.

The Solid Waste Management Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to carry out this project successfully with the participation of a maximum number of citizens, NGOs, private organizations, schools, colleges and parks in the Pune city of Pune. A total of 134 roads in Pune city have been identified for “Pune Plogathon 2022: Mega Drive”.

Various NGOs, Corporate Companies, Colleges, NSS NCC, Pune District Co-operative Housing Society Limited, Nehru Youth Center, Samagra Nadi Parivar and many others will participate in this campaign. For this, a separate cell has been set up in the field office and online registration of all the participants is being done through this link http://bit.ly/puneplogathon2022. More than 84,000 citizens have registered online till date.

Asha Raut, Deputy Commissioner, Solid Waste Management and Coordination, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Pune Municipal Corporation informed that “An awareness cycle rally was organized on May 29 by PMC for the promotion and dissemination of this drive and for the participation of the maximum number of citizens in this plogathon drive. The cycle rally started from the Pune Municipal Corporation main building following the Modern Cafe then Jangali Maharaj Road, Alka Talkies then Tilak Road, Puram Chowk Bajirao Road, Shaniwar Wada and last Pune Municipal Corporation with more than 350 cyclists participating in the rally.”

 

“The initiative will be recorded in the “Asia and India Book of Records” with the participation of more than 70,000 citizens. Those wishing to take part in it should join their nearest Plogathon route and go jogging to pick up dry waste on public roads. Awareness of the initiative will be spread on VMD screens, hoardings and radios,” Raut added further.

 

On June 5, a plogathon drive will be organized at the total of 134 roads in the city, various heritage sites, a total of 45 parks in the city, etc. and a special event will be organized at Bhide bridge, Deccan to conclude the drive.

 

Raut said, “In this place, MP, MLAs, former members, various eminent persons, other officials of the corporation as well as representatives of other dignitaries and organizations who participated in the plogathon drive will come together and take the oath of cleanliness.”
