PM Modi Highlights Strong Cooperation Between India And France In Interview
New Delhi, 13th July 2023: In an interview with a French newspaper before departing for France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi portrayed India as a bridge connecting the ‘Global South’ and the Western world. He emphasized the strong cooperation between India and France and reiterated his vision of “SAGAR” (Security and Growth for All in the Region) for both nations.
On Thursday morning, PM Modi left for France and is scheduled to participate in the Bastille Day celebrations in Paris as the Guest of Honour alongside President Emmanuel Macron. In an interview with French newspaper Les Echos, PM Modi discussed the 25-year strategic partnership between India and France. He expressed his belief that they are now at a turning point, considering the global order post-pandemic and the significant progress made through their strategic partnership. PM Modi also expressed the importance of working on a roadmap for the next 25 years of the partnership, highlighting the strength, trust, consistency, resilience, and ambition that have characterized their relationship.
PM Modi envisioned India as a strong support for the Global South, capable of propelling it forward and establishing linkages with the Global North. He emphasized the need to strengthen this support and bridge the gap between the North and South, enabling stronger connections and a more empowered Global South.
Regarding challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, the Prime Minister emphasized the vast interests and deep engagement of India and France. He defined their vision for the region as “SAGAR,” emphasizing the importance of security and growth for all, peaceful resolution of differences, respect for sovereignty, international law, and a rules-based international order.
PM Modi conveyed his assurance in his farewell declaration that his trip to France would effectively invigorate the mutual strategic alliance. He eagerly anticipated holding extensive discussions with President Macron to further strengthen their enduring relationship over the next 25 years. Additionally, he looked forward to interacting with French leaders, including Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, Senate President Gerard Larcher, and National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet.
During his visit, PM Modi anticipated meeting the vibrant Indian community, prominent CEOs from both countries and notable French personalities. He expressed his belief that the visit would invigorate their strategic partnership.
