Pune, 9th April 2025: Private hospitals across Pune have raised strong objections to repeated false complaints being filed against them with the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). Despite complying with all environmental regulations, these unfounded complaints are reportedly causing unnecessary legal and administrative hurdles for healthcare institutions.

In response, the Pune branches of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Hospital Board of India have demanded strict legal action against those filing such baseless allegations.

Dr. Sunil Ingle, President of IMA Pune, and Dr. Sanjay Patil, President of the Hospital Board of India’s Pune chapter, have jointly written to the MPCB, highlighting the persistent targeting of compliant hospitals by a few individuals. They stated that these actions are creating undue stress and hampering day-to-day operations.

The letter also emphasizes the need for a transparent and evidence-based approach when handling complaints. It urges the MPCB not to act on anonymous or unverified complaints and to initiate legal proceedings against those deliberately attempting to malign hospitals.

“Healthcare institutions are focused on delivering patient care while maintaining regulatory standards. However, repeated harassment through baseless complaints is affecting service delivery and staff morale,” the letter notes.

Responding to the issue, MPCB Regional Officer Jagannath Salunkhe acknowledged the problem and assured that action is being taken. “We are aware of fraudulent activities being carried out in the name of the MPCB and are addressing them through appropriate legal channels,” Salunkhe said, adding that the concerns raised by the medical associations are being taken seriously.
