Pimpri, 09 April 2025: A comprehensive discussion session held on Wednesday focused on drafting a sustainable transportation plan for the Pune Metropolitan Region, with active participation from Pimpri Chinchwad’s elected representatives, former officials, and citizens.

The session, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, emphasized the need for a long-term transportation framework to support the city’s rapid growth over the next 30 to 40 years. Organized by Maha Metro at the Auto Cluster, the event saw detailed deliberations on strengthening the city’s transport infrastructure….

Pimpri Chinchwad’s development is progressing at a fast pace, necessitating a robust transportation blueprint. During the session, public representatives stressed that the transportation plan should account for the city’s needs for the next three to four decades. The discussion, attended by MLA Shankar Jagtap, Usha Khapare, Amit Gorkhe, former House Leader Namdev Dhake, former corporators Sandeep Waghere, Rajendra Gawde, Raju Durge, Maruti Bhapkar, Sachin Chikale, Santosh More, Sunil Kadam, Sharmila Babar, along with Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Chief Engineer Pramod Ombhase, Maha Metro Director Atul Gadgil, Joint City Engineer Bapusaheb Gaikwad among other officials and a large number of citizens, covered various aspects of ongoing and future transport projects.

Topics included upcoming metro routes, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, bus stops, parking facilities, bridges, and other transport-related initiatives in Pimpri Chinchwad. Participants also deliberated on measures to prevent traffic congestion and enhance the city’s transportation network.

Include Pimpri Chinchwad in Pune Metro’s Name – MLA Shankar Jagtap

MLA Shankar Jagtap reiterated a long-standing demand from residents to rename Pune Metro as “Pune Pimpri Chinchwad Metro,” urging Maha Metro officials to act on it. The suggestion received widespread support from attendees, including public representatives and citizens, who echoed that it reflects the aspirations of the entire city. Jagtap also proposed painting metro pillars with Warakari-themed artwork and suggested establishing a railway junction at Pimpri Dairy Farm.

“The Nehru Nagar bus terminal serves a large number of passengers traveling across Maharashtra. Maha Metro had promised to repair its restrooms, but only superficial painting has been done so far.
