Pune: Drunk Driver Threatens Suicide, Found With Revolver During Police Check in Camp Area
Camp, 30th June 2025: A routine police checkpoint in the Pune Camp area turned dramatic when an allegedly drunk motorist refused to cooperate with officers, created a public disturbance, and threatened to hang himself in protest. The incident, which occurred near the Post at midnight on Sunday, led to the arrest of the motorist and the discovery of a revolver in his possession. Police have filed a case against the driver and two of his companions.
The accused have been identified as Arun Suryawanshi (Navi Mumbai), Baburao Ambegave (55, Latur), and Laxman Patil (39, Loni Kalbhor). The complaint was lodged by police constable Vijay Sutar at the Lashkar Police Station.
According to police, Suryawanshi and his friends were stopped at a midnight checkpoint for vehicle inspection. Suspecting that the group had consumed alcohol, officers began their checks. Suryawanshi and his companions resisted, argued with the police, and caused a commotion, disturbing the peace in the area. Suryawanshi escalated the situation by threatening to hang himself in the middle of the road if police action continued.
Police managed to detain Suryawanshi, and upon searching him, found a revolver tucked into his waistband. He reportedly holds a firearm license and works as a contractor. All three men have been charged with obstructing government work and disturbing public order.
Senior Inspector Girish Dighavkar of Lashkar Police Station confirmed the case and stated that legal proceedings are underway.
