Vadgaonsheri, 30th June 2025: For the past three months, residents of Viman Darshan Society in Sanjay Park have been receiving contaminated water mixed with sewage. This ongoing issue has led to a rise in cases of vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach-related illnesses among the local population. Despite repeated complaints, authorities have failed to resolve the problem, leaving residents frustrated and angry.

The contamination affects around 50 to 60 households in lanes 4-C and 4-D, located opposite the Pune International Airport. Residents have repeatedly contacted former local corporators and water supply officials, even submitting water samples as evidence. However, officials have only given evasive responses, promising action but failing to deliver results.

Due to the yellowish, foul-smelling water coming from their taps, residents have been forced to rely on water tankers. With rising tanker prices, many are now compelled to purchase separate water for daily use and for drinking, adding to their financial burden.

Local residents Mushir Khan, Mehmood Shaikh, and Ayub Mitkari reported that the contaminated water has caused frequent illnesses, particularly affecting the elderly and children. They also criticized the water supply department for delaying efforts to identify the exact source of sewage leakage into the water pipelines.

Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare has instructed the water supply officials to immediately stop the supply of contaminated water and ensure the provision of clean water. However, attempts to reach the department’s junior engineer for comments were unsuccessful.

Executive Engineer Eknath Gadekar from the water supply department acknowledged receiving complaints from Sanjay Park and stated that staff are working to restore clean water. He suspects the contamination may be due to old, unused tap connections and assured that efforts are underway to identify and resolve the issue.
