Pune, 3rd July 2025: The Pune Knowledge Cluster (PKC) is set to organize an International Citizen Science Conclave at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, on Saturday (5th July). The day-long event aims to bring together researchers, students, NGOs, innovators, and science enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate and explore the growing impact of citizen-led scientific initiatives.

The conclave will serve as a platform to highlight global efforts in participatory science, encourage collaboration, and promote the exchange of ideas and best practices. It will also focus on how citizen science can contribute to solving pressing societal and environmental challenges.

Citizen science, a concept gaining widespread global traction, involves the active participation of the general public in scientific research. Regardless of formal scientific training, individuals can contribute by collecting data, analyzing results, and even shaping research agendas. These community-driven projects help bridge the gap between science and society, making scientific research more inclusive and democratic.

The conclave will also host a Citizen Science Expo, which will be open to the public from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at IISER, Pune. The expo will feature interactive exhibits, posters, tools, and demonstrations from citizen science initiatives across the country and abroad. While the event is free to attend, prior registration is mandatory through the official form link provided by PKC.

Key themes of the conclave include the role of technology in citizen science, its contributions to sustainability and environmental monitoring, and its growing relevance in public health and community well-being. Attendees will gain insights into how digital platforms and mobile apps are enabling wider public participation in scientific efforts—from tracking biodiversity and monitoring pollution to gathering public health data.

PKC encourages participation from citizen scientists, researchers, academics, tech developers, policymakers, and environmental organizations. The conclave is expected to foster meaningful dialogue, inspire innovation, and strengthen networks among those committed to making science more accessible and impactful for society.
