Developmental Justice for Villages Merged into Pune Municipal Corporation: Minister Samant
Mumbai, 3rd July 2025: Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Uday Samant informed the Legislative Council that a comprehensive development plan is underway for 32 villages recently merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The plan, being prepared by PMC and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), aims to provide essential infrastructure and ensure developmental justice for these areas.
The statement came in response to a notice raised by MLC Yogesh Tilekar, who suggested dividing PMC to create a separate municipal body for East Pune following the inclusion of the 32 peripheral villages. Addressing the Council, Samant detailed the ongoing measures being taken to develop these newly added villages.
According to the minister, development plans for 11 of the villages were initially being drafted by PMC. However, with the plan’s tenure expiring, the Maharashtra state government has now taken over further proceedings. For the remaining 23 villages, PMRDA is preparing the development plans.
Samant emphasized that the government is focused on providing these areas with key amenities such as water supply, electricity, roads, solid waste management, and sewage treatment facilities. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable development across the expanded municipal region.
