New Delhi, 15th July 2025: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has dismissed reports claiming that Indian snacks like samosas and jalebis would soon carry health warnings similar to those seen on tobacco products.

Addressing widespread speculation, the PIB clarified that the Union Health Ministry has not issued any such directive. A tweet from the official PIB Fact Check handle on Tuesday labeled the circulating reports as fake and confirmed that the Health Ministry’s advisory contains no provision for warning labels on food items sold by vendors.

“Some media reports claim that the Ministry of Health has issued a health warning on food products such as samosas, jalebi, and laddoo. This claim is false,” the tweet stated.

Earlier, several media outlets had reported that the Health Ministry had asked all central institutions to install boards cautioning people about the risks associated with consuming traditional Indian snacks, including samosas, jalebis, laddoos, pakoras, and vada pav.
