Pune’s Ira Subramanian Wins Bronze for India at South Asian Karate Championship 2025
Pune, 25th July 2025: Pune’s young martial arts prodigy, Ira Subramanian, made the city and the nation proud by clinching a bronze medal at the South Asian Karate Championship 2025, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on July 5–6. Competing in the Under-10 Female Kumite -30 kg category, Ira fought her way to the podium with remarkable grit and determination.
Representing India, Ira battled it out against tough competitors from both Sri Lanka and India, playing three intense matches to secure her spot among the medal winners. Her bronze medal contributed to India’s overall runner-up finish in the championship medal tally.
A Journey Marked by Grit and Glory
Ira’s path to the international stage was anything but easy. She first had to overcome fierce competition at the state level in Maharashtra. After securing a spot on the national team, she went on to win gold at the 4th KIO National Championship held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, in June, which earned her a place in the South Asian squad.
Recognizing her achievement, the Karate-do Association of Maharashtra (KAM) felicitated Ira at a special ceremony held for national and international medallists. She was awarded a champion’s trophy and a cash prize by KIO President Bharat Sharma, KAM President Salauddin Ansari, and KAM General Secretary Sandeep Gade, who applauded her dedication and passion for the sport.
Coaches and Support Behind the Success
Ira has been training in karate since the age of six under the guidance of Coach Bhavinya Aiwale of SNBP Karate Champions, who has played a pivotal role in shaping her journey. She also received key fitness and agility training from Coach Amit Kumar and Athlete Inside, whose support contributed significantly to her development as a well-rounded athlete.
As Ira continues her rise in the sport, she stands as an inspiration to many young martial artists, proving that discipline, determination, and the right mentorship can take talent to international heights.
