Pune, 30th July 2025: In a major crackdown on unauthorized construction, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified more than 80 large illegal structures that have come up in the Kondhwa area since 2022. To tackle the issue, the PMC’s Building Development Department has deployed a special team of around 40 engineers to carry out demolition operations and file criminal cases against violators. Demolitions have already begun over the past few days.

As part of this ongoing action, two major unauthorized RCC buildings, one four-storey structure at Malik Nagar and another three-storey structure at Saibaba Nagar, were demolished on Wednesday. The total area razed spanned approximately 3,800 square feet. Following the demolition, PMC has declared the affected buildings structurally unsafe and urged residents not to occupy or engage in any purchase or investment in these properties.

PMC officials have also warned that all transactions related to these illegal properties should be avoided, citing serious legal and safety risks.

The survey conducted by PMC revealed that some of these buildings are already occupied, while others are still under construction. Notices have been served to property owners, and police assistance will be sought to vacate and demolish occupied illegal structures. For under-construction sites, demolition is being carried out immediately.

Due to the dense population in the area, officials are facing operational challenges, prompting a phased demolition strategy. According to Rajesh Bankar, Superintendent Engineer (Building Permissions), the civic body plans to complete the demolition of all such illegal constructions in Kondhwa within the next one to two months, in coordination with the police.

This aggressive move marks one of the largest anti-encroachment efforts in the city in recent times, aimed at curbing rampant unauthorized development and ensuring public safety.
