Pimpri, 30th July 2025: Cracks have emerged at multiple spots on the newly constructed Rs 23 crore cement concrete road built by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) from Srishti Chowk in Pimple Gurav to Shankarwadi, raising serious concerns about construction quality.

The road, developed as part of an infrastructure plan to facilitate faster travel from Pimple Gurav via Kasarwadi and Shankarwadi to the Pune-Mumbai highway, has started showing visible damage. A major section between Shankar Mandir and the Bharat Ratna J.R.D. Tata flyover in Kasarwadi has developed significant cracks.

The road was opened to traffic just six months ago. However, within days, a 10-meter-long and 2-inch-wide crack appeared near the solid waste transfer station in Shankarwadi. Repairs were undertaken, and the stretch was temporarily closed. Less than a month later, a new crack, 10 to 15 meters long and 1 to 1.5 inches wide, emerged at the same location, prompting another round of repairs and fresh concrete filling.

PCMC Assistant Engineer Sunil Dangde confirmed the issue, stating that the contractor is bound by a five-year maintenance agreement and has carried out the necessary repairs accordingly.

The recurring cracks have raised eyebrows among locals and civic observers, who are demanding greater accountability and inspection of large-scale civic works.
