Pune, 6th August 2025: In a major step towards easing access to government welfare schemes, the central government has launched the Beneficiary Verification App, allowing senior citizens, widows, and persons with disabilities to submit their annual “Hayati” (life certificate) digitally—from the comfort of their homes.

Submission of a life certificate is mandatory each year for beneficiaries of centrally sponsored pension schemes under the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance. Until now, this required physically visiting government offices, often proving inconvenient and challenging for the elderly and differently-abled.

With the new app, beneficiaries aged 65 and above can use facial recognition via a mobile camera to complete the verification process. The app uses Aadhaar-based Face ID authentication to confirm the beneficiary’s identity.

“If someone is unable to complete the process on their phone, they should visit their local Tehsil office for assistance,” said officials from the district administration.

Digital Service Brings Relief to Marginalized Groups
The app eliminates the need for annual visits to government offices, offering significant relief to elderly citizens, persons with disabilities, and widowed women living below the poverty line.

“This facility is transparent, quick, and hassle-free,” said Namdev Tilekar, Deputy Collector of the Inheritance Law (Kul Kayda) Department.

To use the service, beneficiaries must enter their Aadhaar number in the app, which then performs face authentication through the Aadhaar Face ID system.
