Pune Sirat Committee Reschedules Prophet Muhammad Jayanti to September 8 for Ganesh Visarjan
Pune, 19th August 2025: In a move to maintain communal harmony, the Pune Sirat Committee has announced that the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary (Prophet Jayanti) will be held on September 8 instead of September 5, as the date coincides with Ganesh Visarjan.
The decision was conveyed after a joint meeting of Sirat Committee members with Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Tuesday. Senior police officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma and DCP Bhajibhakare, were also present along with committee members Maulana Jamiruddin, Rafiuddin Sheikh, Siraj Bagwan, Asif Sheikh, Javed Khan, Abid Syed, Ansar Pinjari and Maulana Khalid Nizami.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar welcomed the committee’s decision and expressed gratitude for prioritising social harmony during the festive season.
As part of the celebrations, the Sirat Committee will organise a traditional procession on September 8. The procession will begin at 9 am from Manushah Masjid in Nana Peth and culminate at City Jama Masjid.
Both Ganesh Visarjan and Prophet Jayanti are expected to draw large gatherings in Pune, and the police have appealed to citizens to cooperate in ensuring peaceful celebrations.
