Pune Municipal Corporation Begins Election Preparations, Seeks Election Officers
Pune, 29th August 2025: Following the release of the draft ward structure, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated preparations for the upcoming municipal elections. The PMC’s Election Department has requested the Divisional Commissioners to appoint 17 Chief Election Officers and 34 Assistant Election Officers to oversee the process. Once the election schedule is officially announced, these officers will manage the ward-wise election proceedings.
The draft ward structure, announced as per the state government’s timetable, covers 41 wards configured as four-member wards. Accordingly, the Municipal Corporation has requested one election officer to oversee two to three wards, totaling 15 officers and two additional officers. These officers will be tasked with calling for nominations, scrutinizing applications, planning elections, and overseeing result declarations. Separate staff will also be appointed to assist in the election process, as clarified by the PMC administration.
Objections Filed on Draft Ward Structure
Since the announcement of the draft ward structure on August 22, around 396 objections have been submitted by citizens. The objection period is scheduled to continue until September 4. However, with Ganeshotsav festivities underway and many residents preoccupied with celebrations, there have been demands to extend the deadline.
The highest number of objections has been registered from Ward 15 (Manjari-Sadesatara Nali) with 160 objections, followed by Ward 34 (Narhe-Vadgaon Budruk) with 126 objections. An authorized officer will be appointed by the government to hear these objections, likely by Monday or Tuesday.
Hearing Schedule for Objections
The Municipal Corporation has collected the mobile numbers and email IDs of citizens who submitted objections. Once the government appoints the authorized officer, the hearing schedule will be shared with the objectors. Objections and suggestions will be reviewed from September 4 to September 12. Additionally, the administration plans to set aside a separate day for hearing objections that could not be addressed during the initial sessions.
